Abstract:
As each moment passes, history records what has and has not taken place by the action or inaction of leaders and institutions. Being history conscious allows for observers to examine whether or not the language and rhetoric of decision makers are reflected by significant changes in philosophy and the implementation of meaningful plans of action. In this light, the concept of moral courage provides a lens for evaluating whether or not stakeholders have acted on what they know to be true in terms of addressing difficult issues such as racial conciliation. Awareness for the need to embrace justice and decolonize has been around for decades among Christian leaders and institutions, yet areas such as hiring practices, curriculum development, and fundraising still do not represent widespread repentance and tangible organizational changes based upon this knowledge. A redemptive prophetic framework will be explored, along with practical steps that can be taken to foster a culture of accountability leading to transformation.
