The guiding theme of SVS 2020 is “Hearing, Seeing, and Remembering As The People of God.” Together we will explore hearing, seeing, and remembering as theological, biblical, spiritual, pastoral, historical, and embodied practices.

We have a thrilling lineup of plenary speakers: Kathryn Edin, Glenn Packiam, and James Mumford.

  • Kathryn is one of the nation’s leading poverty researchers, known for her direct, in-depth observations of the lives of low-income women, men, and children. She is Professor of Sociology and Public Affairs at Princeton University, and has decades of connection to the Vineyard movement.
  • Glenn does does innovative and practical theological work at the intersection of the theology, mission, and worship life of the church. He is a pastor at New Life Church in Colorado Springs, an ordained priest in the ACNA, and holds a Doctorate in Theology and Ministry from Durham University in the UK.
  • James is a British author and journalist. Widely published on a range of subjects – ethical, political, and literary – James has a keen eye for the ironies and problems of “package-deal ethics” as dealt out by contemporary political parties. His newest book Vexed: Ethics Beyond Political Tribes exposes those ironies and charts out a valuable path forward.  He has a DPhil in ethics from Oxford, and is a Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Culture at the University of Virginia.

We are also excited to highlight the fact that this year’s conference includes a Vineyard Justice Network track, which will feature a short off-site immersion at Chicago’s Mitchell Museum of the American Indian as well as some guided discussions to help us develop a Kingdom approach to contemporary ethical issues, over against the false choices presented by the “package-deal ethics” of our partisan political system.

All further details about SVS 2020 can be found on our Annual Conference page.

See you in Chicago!
