Abstract:

This paper explores the pattern of revivals in Vineyard’s spiritual lineage starting with Peter as an example of denial, repentance, obedience, revival and protest against adding an established tradition as a requirement for salvation. While explaining the experiences and revelations that the reformists and revivalists learned and shared as each passed through various aspects of the pattern, this paper will expand on many of the beliefs and values that have been passed down and infused into the Vineyard. Additionally, by presenting that the reformation of the church continues to recenter on Jesus through the Holy Spirit’s illumination of the Word and empowerment for gifts and fruit, this paper will demonstrate that, if the Vineyard is to have a meaningful role in the inevitable future of the church, it must remain true to its original values and not be tempted to focus on the outward aesthetics which are being established in its tradition.
