Abstract:
You’re one of thousands of spectators crammed into the Roman Colosseum, eagerly anticipating a bloody gladiator match. Against this cultural backdrop, the Apostle Paul seems to take his cue from the Colosseum by addressing the new Jesus communities with fighting words, pitting those “justified by faith” against those “justified by the law” (Gal. 2:16). But what’s really going on here? Whose side is Paul really on?
